This Week In Geek 2011/05/09

Longer Term
  • General - Sensorium - Running all week
    • An event that combines all 5 senses (including tasty food!) to make for a full spectrum experience.  This has been going on for the last few weeks, and longer.  Listed this week... well because.  It is rather expensive, but everything I've seen makes it seem completely worth it.
  • Art - "Peep" Show - Saturday to Sunday
    • A gallery event show casing all sorts of peep(the evil sugary Easter candy) related artwork.  Free show and should be interesting.
  • GeneralVirginia Renaissance Festival - Opening Weekend - Saturday to Sunday
    • Virginia's Renaissance Festival is a lot of horrible Ren accents, some fantastic costumes, in my experience... usually rain :P, turkey legs, and fun shows.  A lot of nerds try to make it out to at least one day of Ren a year.  This is opening weekend!
Monday
  • Art - Show: Clown Cabaret at The Shop - Monday at 8 pm
    • Monthly event, crazy modern clown show in dc. A lot of the acts seem amazingly creative and interesting.  Worth the check.  Swami Yohmami is part of this troupe as well.  I've seen his act... I believe at a Hack & Slash performance.  If everything else associated to this is as good you're in for a treat.
Wednesday
  • Art - Capital Tassels & Tease: ONE YEAR - Wednesday at 8 pm
    • This is Capital Tassel's one year anniversary burlesque show.  More than half burlesque virgins.
Thursday
  • Art - Matt Baker Comedy Stunt Show - Thursday at 8 pm
    • Stunt / juggling acts are always funny.  This one is supposed to be so much more.  Check out the video to see a preview of what I'm talking about.
Friday
  • Comedy - The Anti-Social Network at DAR Constitution Hall - 8 pm
    • Stand up performance involving Dave Attell, Jim Breuer, Jim Norton & Bill Burr.  Dave Attell is perhaps best known for the Comedy Central show Insomnia. Jim Breuer was a cast member of SNL and was one of the main characters in Half Baked. Here are some examples of Jim Norton's stand up. And some examples of Bill Burr.
  • Music - Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr and Generationals - 8:30 pm
    • Ok, this one makes the list just due to how odd it is.  This level of oddity has me curious by nature.  Check out their myspace for some music samples and here's a review on them as well and then the call is yours.  Butt.. just very weird.
Saturday
  • Art - Epic Win Burlesque with Schaffer the Darklord and Nelson Lugo - 8 pm
    • Quoted as the nerdiest Burlesque show you'll ever see.  Looking at their list of acts... I'm having a hard time arguing.  Really if this is half as nerdy and inside... jokey as they are alluding, this will be worth your time.  Go out drinking afterwards.  It can wait a few hours.
Sunday
  • Geekish General - D.C. Taco Experiment - 12 pm
    • Amateur and pro chefs battle (to the death? :( seems not) to make the best taco. I like tacos. If you and epic food battles, check it out.

An exciting week! Get to it!  Other weekly reoccurring events are listed on our website (such as Rocky, CCG tournaments, crazy themed happy hours...).

For more details on any event listed, check out the calendars at DC Geeks.
