Longer Term
- Festivals - Virginia Renaissance Festival - Opening Weekend - Friday and Saturday 10 pm
- Yay! Dressing up in garb, eating turkey legs and bread bowls, listening to awesome music.
Monday
- Music - Amon Amarth at Jaxx - 7:30 pm
- Alright, so Amon Amarth has a couple of good points going for it. For one, they consider themselves viking influenced Death Metal. Their music is heavily peppered with references to Norse mythology. They have songs... about myths... some of which became super heroes *coughthorcough*. Definitely worth checking out.
- Holiday - Happy Star Wars Day! - All Day
- May the Fourth Be With you! Star Wars Day is a horrible pun and the unoffical Star Wars holiday. There is supposed to be some sort of Star Wars related dealy getting released that day as well. Hmm, this better not be movie re-releases in 3D. Don't make me get my slapping gauntlet.
- Gaming - DCGN Rides Free - 6:30 pm
- DC Game Night event. Lots of fun board games and interesting people.
- Music - Rockapella @ The Birchmere - 7:30 pm
- Please tell me you remember Rockapella, the band that played a lot of the music for the old Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?!? You better be under 25 or lived under a rock (if so I recommend youtube and 2 minutes you'll never get back watching a not amazing, but I'm still nostaglic about it tv show). Ok, so they aren't that kind of band anymore, they have evidentially reinvented themselves since then. But still. Acapella's pretty fun. Hopefully they'll still be just as fun as before. This is supposedly their new sound.
- Comedy - David Coulier from Full House Live - Friday and Saturday at 6:30 pm and 9:55 pm
- You all probably remember Full House. I'm not that old yet right? Damn, depressing week of revelations. Time to go watch some transformers and cry myself to sleep. :P Anyhow, he was one of the main cast members, and more than reasonably funny. I'm more than a little interested in seeing how his stand up act fairs. Especially since Bob Saget's act is so amazing.
- Comedy - Johnathan Coulton w/ Paul & Storm - 7:30 pm
- JoCo's shows are always a lot of fun. A lot of us have heard his music, from Still Alive, the ending theme to Portal and other awesome songs like Re: Your Brains. Paul & Storm are fantastic in their own right. I'd go to see them if they toured on their own, personally.
- Art - Trixie & Monkey's Brilliant Stupidity - 9:00 pm
- Acrobatics, burlesque, magic, stripteases, and spankings. Yeah. That's what I thought. Mind blown right. I have no idea what this show is going to be like honestly. But that sort of description has me rapt at attention.
- Holiday - Free Comic Book Day - All Day
- Comic shops give out free comics. Not all of them, but a select line of these... sort of mini comics. Not small like your pocket Tai Chi book, but not quite as long, yet still normal sized. Check out your local comic shop to see what they have.
- General - National Train Day - 11:00 am
- Sort of a train nerd holiday. Sort of a Amtrak promotion day. But the train stuff they have set up should be pretty interesting in itself.
- Music - Milk Machine Cd Release Party - 9:00 pm
- Crazy mustaches, vaudevillian... sort of.... rock music. The show looks to be a very interesting experience.
An exciting week! Get to it! Other weekly reoccurring events are listed on our website (as talking about them here could get a little repetitive).
For more details on any event listed, check out the calendars at DC Geeks.
