Podcast - DCG Internet Hour and Jonah's Musical Corner

In the words of John Anealio, "She used to be a goth kid.
Now, she's a steampunk girl." (image by TRF_Mr_Hyde)

I love recording podcasts ahead of time. You get beautiful moments like Brannen's prescient comment halfway through the podcast of, "We need to put our heads together and do like a monthly music segment or something." The timing is perfect because with Jonah Knight's help, that's exactly what we did.

Jonah's Musical Corner is a new monthly segment that, to use Jonah's words, will "put before you and into your ears, music that I think should be a part of the soundtrack of geek and nerd culture."

In this episode, Jonah's spotlight focuses on John Anealio. This week's song, Steampunk Girl, is the first of his new album, to be released Tuesday, September 18. Get a bunch of his music for free at his website www.johnanealio.com.

Jonah is currently accepting suggestions for future episodes. Tell him about your favorite geek/nerd music by emailing him at jonahofthesea@gmail.com. (Editor's note: You can also check out Jonah's paranormal/supernatural/steampunk modern folk on his website).

Our podcast then transforms into "Scooter, Brannen, and Aine's Internet Culture Hour" as we three hosts talk our way through nostalgia and meme-filled referential humor. Scooter brings a more high-brow moment as he attempts to remedy my woeful lack of nerdcore knowledge.

The meme list this week ranges from the Minecraft Gets Played song to what I can only describe as the most terrifying commercial I have ever seen. We also fail at trying to swear like it's 1499 and discuss the difficulty of establishing ratings systems for media (this podcast is rated 12-stars and is therefore inappropriate for children, or people who only like media which has been made to specifically cater to children).

To end on a high, Wagnerian note, I'd like to leave you with the stunningly beautiful ad for Alex Alice's Siegfried:

Thanks for listening. And thanks to Jonah for our new segment.
