Wednesday
- HP - Apothecary Museum celebrates Harry Potter - Alexandria, VA - 6:00PM
- In case you were unaware, July 31st is Harry Potter's birthday, in 1980 to be exact. Meaning that on this day in 1991, Rubeus Habrid kicked his way into the hut on the rock to deliver the momentus news, "You're a wizard, Harry." Alexandria is celebrating from 6:00 to 9:00 with special tours of the place where elixirs and remedies have been mixed for over a century. For $6.00, you can learn the real-world counterpart to the HP-verse's magical brews.
Thursday
- Movies - Avengers outside at Canal Park - Washington, DC - Sundown (8:45PM-ish)
- Many of us need no excuse to watch the Avengers again. And while you could zip over to Netflix to check it out, there's really nothing like seeing it again on a big screen. The unseasonably cool temperatures should balance out that humidity. The weather is likely to be worth it for that scene with the Hulk, right?
Friday
- Round One: FIGHT! - Super Art Fight Book Release Party - Baltimore, MD - 7:00PM
- Actually, this isn't a throwdown like we usually plug for the badass artists over at Super Art Fight. Instead, it's a party over their hugely successful Kickstarter book. They managed to not only get funded, but blew their goal away to get 339% of their original goal. If you're a backer, make sure you use their contact page to let them know if you want to pick up your rewards directly at the party.

Saturday
- Mind-bending Awesomeness - Indie Con DC - Washington, DC - 4:00PM to 10:00PM
- Reasons our con is so awesome? It's at Public Bar, so grab a pint. Secondly? No cover or admission charge. If you can't find a sitter between now and then, it's all ages from 4:00-7:00. And if you don't want to have to watch out for kids before swearing, the event shifts to being 21+ afterwards. The line up of awesome Indie Developers / Drinking Buddies is on our website, with Andrew Eiche currently holding the title for best official job title. Don't forget to RSVP on our Facebook Page.
Longer Term
- Convention - BronyCon - Baltimore, MD - Friday through Sunday
- Truth in advertising. There will be a convention. There will be bronies (or pegasisters for those that prefer the feminine fan name), and probably a lot of singing. Here's the truly awesome thing: for anyone in the fandom who can't make it out, the weekend will be lievestreamed over the Everfree Network - check the link above after the panels get rolling.
- Pennsic - Pennsic - Pennsic - until Saturday
- If you're there, you're not reading this. If you're not there, then you're in air conditioning. Go you. Dear Pennsic fighters, please don't die of heat stroke in full plate.
- Convention - Shore Leave - Hunt Valley, MD - Friday through Sunday
- Shore Leave is a fan convention. So the guest list is staggering. Of course, there's Shatner (August 3 only), guests from Eureka and Warehouse 13, and if we tried to list them all off we'd be here for a gigantic text block. The con offers not only child but also teen-oriented programming, a masquerade, and even a rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock tournament.
Did we miss something? If you have an event you’d like to promote that isn’t on this list, leave a comment or email us. Other weekly recurring events are listed on our website (such as Rocky, CCG tournaments, crazy themed happy hours). For more information, check out the calendars at DC Geeks.
Defcon is also this weekend. And it shall be GLORIOUS.
