A showcase of this week's finest geek and geek related activities for the week. Mark your calendars.

Friday
  • Music/Comedy - John Hodgman with Paul & Storm - Alexandria, VA - 7:30PM
    • You probably know Hodgman from the Daily Show (please tell me you don’t still think of him as “Oh! He’s the PC!”). Meanwhile, you should know Paul and Storm from W00tstock or songs such as “Opening Band.” If you haven’t, try checking out the first season of Learning Town, P&S’s series on Geek & Sundry. Such a link-filled description of geekery and goodness. Watch ALL the things!
  • Burlesque - ELE presents Whedonism 2 - Washington, DC - 8:45PM and 11:00PM
    • The Evil League of Ecdysiasts are keeping us in almost weekly nerdlesque, and there are no complaints here. As promised, Cherie and Gigi are delivering a host of talented guests and Joss-based acts. The event is 21+ at Black Cat, and costuming is strongly encouraged. You should be able to whip together a Captain Hammer costume between now and then, right?
  • Reddit/Flash Mob - Make a Little Girl’s Dream Come True - Chantilly, VA - 6:00PM
    • There’s a little girl who just found out that she has brain cancer, and she’s not been doing well. She just wants to be a princess. There are instructions for this massive tea party and parking and more on the original post, linked above. Specifically, they’re still looking for a videographer to capture the event so the girl can keep it on DVD. Here's a link to the Facebook page.

Saturday
  • Geek Holiday - Free Comic Book Day!! - Local Game Stores - All Day
    • It’s exactly what it sounds like. Yes, I’m serious. The comic book store veterans already know and set their calendars by this day, but for newbs it’s often hard to believe. You really can go to a store and get free comics. Super simple stuff. Judging by their store locator, we have Big Planet Comics (DC, Bethesda, and College Park), Fantom Comics, Alliance Comics, and Aftertime Comics. Of course, we’re rooting for Fantom since we’ve podcasted with them (shameless plug link).
  • Geek Holiday - May the Fourth - A Galaxy Far Far Away - All Day
    • I’m not going to insult you by explaining the joke: it’s just Star Wars Day because it’s Star Wars Day. Now, the NoVA MSTies’ have an excellent idea with their all-day Rifftrax Marathon. If you’d rather get out and share your Star Wars pride, then there will be events from 11AM-3PM at Labyrinth. Or, you could just dust off your old SWTOR account now that it’s free to play (ish?) and just murder [Sith/Jedi] to your [Light/Dark] Sided heart’s content.
  • Film - Iron Man 3 opening night - Local Theaters - All Day
    • This is like the geek trifecta: Star Wars, Free Comics, and a reminder of how we’ve dominated the top grossing films in the past decade. Just realized that Iron Man 3 has its own exhibit in Disney’s Tomorrowland. Aaaand, our calendar has this listed as “Thor 3.” Lulz. All the Marvel-verse movies are blurring together now that Avengers is out, but given how... god awful (pun intended) Thor was, it was hard to stop laughing long enough to fix the entry. Sorry for the leftover April Fools, guys.

All karma goes to OP, Jetemple.
Longer Term
  • Gaming - Games Club of MD’s Game Days - Timonium, MD - Thursday through Sunday
    • All gaming, all weekend. Over 80 hours of it between 10:00am on opening day until the doors close at 6:00PM at the end of the weekend. Remember to mention Game Days when you register for your hotel room to get the discount. Sounds like a very focused con, and with everyone under 17 getting in at $5 (with a paying adult), it could be an excellent way to get your kid into the hobby.

Did we miss something? If you have an event you’d like to promote that isn’t on this list, leave a comment or email us. Other weekly recurring events are listed on our website (such as Rocky, CCG tournaments, crazy themed happy hours). For more information, check out the calendars at DC Geeks.
