This Week in Geek: Board Gamers Rejoice!

A showcase of this week's finest geek and geek related activities for the week. Mark your calendars.

Tuesday
  • Board Gaming - Brews and Board Games - Baltimore, MD - 6:00PM
    • Ok, Baltimore doesn’t really qualify as the “D/M/V” area, but for a lot of our southern Maryland readers, this might be closer than most northern VA events. So, if you’re one of our northern audience, you may already be aware of how badass the Windup Space is (after all, they host Super Art Fight and Dr. Sketchy’s on a regular basis). Well, what you might not know is that this week, they have a low-key night chilling out with beer and games.

Thursday
  • Board Gaming - GNO hosts Labyrinth Game Night - Washington, DC - 6:00PM
    • Geek Night Out claims Labyrinth every fourth Thursday to host a game night. Bring a game you love, try out something you’ve never seen, or buy something while you’re there that you’ve been meaning to pick up for a while (e.g. do you really have all the Carcassonne  and Arkham Horror expansions you need?). The suggested donation is a mere $3 - show Labyrinth some love for hosting.
Saturday
  • Comics - Annapolis Comic-Con - Annapolis, MD - 10:00AM to 6:00PM
    • Admission is only $10 and kids 10-years-old and younger get in for free. For a one-day con, the dealers’ list is impressive, but the list of guests is jaw dropping. Sponsored by Third Eye Comics and an easy day trip away, the Con sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday.

Small World: good on iPad, excellent in person.

  • Board Gaming  - AARGGH’s June Melee - Alexandria, VA - 10:30AM to 4:30PM
    • It’s not the boffer competition that you might expect from the name. The Alexandria-Arlington Gaming Group is actually looking to get you out of the heat and into the wondrous air conditioning of Beatley Central Library. Whether you bring a game or not is up to you, but the event is also a potluck, so head over with your favorite game-friendly snacks (no one likes cheeto dust all over their Small World pieces).
  • BarCraft! - Spring Championship Barcraft - Washington, DC - 2:00PM
    • Another brew-filled event, but instead of board games, this one focuses on living for the swarm! StarCraft II. One Nation of Gamers has created an amazing event around the Major League of Gaming Spring Championship, including a few incredible giveaways if you check the description on their Facebook page linked above. “Jim Raynor Dog Tag USB” - need we say more?
Sunday
  • FIGHT! - Super Art Fight at the Jewish Museum - Baltimore, MD - 1:00PM
    • Another geeky Baltimore event? Let’s step it up, DC. Now we plug Super Art Fight pretty frequently, in part because we’ve podcasted with a couple of members. However, another reason is because they won’t be back in the area until Otakon in August! If you’re a fan, even if you’re on our southern edges, you may consider the drive worth it. This event is specifically comic themed, so bonus for you Bats and Supes fans.

  • Wizards - Pinball & Other Games at Black Cat - Washington, DC - 8:00PM
    • Mmm, pinball (or pool and other games) with frozen drink specials. Nothing says “classy as hell” quite like a margarita and a new high score. When was the last time you played a real pinball machine? MAGFest? Come on, life is too short to avoid joys like this. Even if you’re not playing by your sense of smell, head out and give it a shot.

Did we miss something? If you have an event you’d like to promote that isn’t on this list, leave a comment or email us. Other weekly recurring events are listed on our website (such as Rocky, CCG tournaments, crazy themed happy hours). For more information, check out the calendars at DC Geeks.
