We love talking about board games. So we started off this episode with the intent of getting all that out of our system, and rapidly tangent onto fun GameCube and PS2 games. James reminds us of the joy of Time Crisis 3 and those wonderful orange gun attachments that only worked with old CRTs. I lament why I've never finished the entirety of Parasite Eve (see the chart below):
Flowchart of every rpg ever. (by GameInformer) |
We talk about the mechanics of making friends and boss fights in modern PC games (which leads to the hilarious image of your Warden, the hero of Ferelden, mashing cake into Morrigan's face, screaming "Why won't you love me!?") And the short-attention-span pendulum rockets back to Munchkin, Chrononauts, and Ticket to Ride. At least until Mark arrives as a surprise guest and throws our podcast on a great new track: Nerd Culture.
Within Nerd Culture: there's always someone to judge. (XKCD by Randall Munroe) |
We talk about what it is, wonder why everyone seems so angry, and throw around a few theories of our own. Whether it's self-proclaimed nerd lords designating a new internet punching bag (additional relevant xkcd), or general nerdshaming bullshit, we're sick of seeing the title used to keep people out. We're always getting asked "What is a geek/nerd?" and we love finding new, concise, eloquent answers so please share your thoughts in the comments.
Plugging random things!
- Keep an eye out for a rumored revamp of Lord of the Pasties (nsfw flickr of the last show)
- Grab tickets now for AwesomeCon.
- We've got a host of new staff here at DC Geeks, tell them hi when you see their articles.
- MAGFest was excellent, as always, look out for information about MAGstock.
- ShmooCon is sold out but a few people may still be hawking tickets.
Thanks to James and Mark for a great podcast!
