Longer Term
- Cosplay - International Cosplay [Weekend] - Washington, DC - Saturday and Sunday
- Technically, the event is world wide, however, the DC Anime Club is sponsoring an event from 1:00-5:00 (on both days?) in the Botanical Gardens. The weekend weather looks clear and cool, so this should be a great photo op for everyone looking to show off their costumes.
Hell yeah, burlesque! (promo photo by Black Tassel Boolesque) |
- Burlesque - Black Tassel Boolesque & Monster Movies - Washington, DC - 8:30PM
- I'm excited about the combination of horror movies and burlesque. Show up with a partner who doesn't mind having your face buried against their shoulder and enjoy the show! Other performances this week include Thursday's wonderland-themed circus (with Mab Just Mab!) and Saturday's enormous, all-star Killer Show.
Thursday
- Hacking - Open Hack Night - Baltimore, MD - 7:00PM
- I know that Baltimore is usually enough of a trek that I leave it off the events list, but I think it's awesome that #BaltimoreNode is having an open hack night. I love makerspaces and hackerspaces and especially love seeing them do events like this. So if you can make the drive out, sign up for their Meetup list to let them know you're coming. (There's also an open hack night Wednesday at the Baltimore Hackerspace in Rosedale).
Saturday
- Concert - Paul and Storm! - Alexandria, VA - 7:30PM
- It must be that time of year again. Paul and Storm are making their way back through Virginia for a performance at the Birchmere. Have you guys seen "Write Like the Wind"? I ran across it while flipping through Geek and Sundry's shows. This song had me in crying I was laughing so hard.
BarCraft, where there are few badass (and cc-licensed) photos because everyone is riveted to the match. (image by idealisms) |
Sunday
- Gaming - BarCraft Summer Championship - Washington, DC - 12:00PM
- I was thrilled to hear through Facebook that Barcraft is back. Screens broadcast the match to a roomful of geeks, and I've heard rumors of custom drinks - what more do you need to know? One Nation of Gamers seems to run a tight ship, and if you're interested, they're on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube. "Hell, it's about time"
Monday
- Concert - Dead Can Dance - Vienna, VA - 8:00PM
- Might not be nerdcore, but I'm throwing this in here for the history and music geeks. DCD combines (as Wikipedia puts it) "constructed soundscapes of mesmerizing grandeur and solemn beauty; African polyrhythms, Gaelic folk, Gregorian chant, Middle Eastern mantras, and art-rock." I'll be there, and even if you can't make it, you should find time to give them a listen.
Did we miss something? If you have an event you’d like to promote that isn’t on this list, leave a comment or email us. Other weekly reoccurring events are listed on our website (such as Rocky, CCG tournaments, crazy themed happy hours). For more information, check out the calendars at DC Geeks.
