This Week in Geek 2012/12/10

A showcase of this week's finest geek and geek related activities for the week. Mark your calendars, and grab your coats. It’s a week full of performances for the geek and geek lovers in the DC region.
Never seen a clown look so stern.

Monday
  • Clown Cabaret - Maybe Its the End of the World - Washington, DC - 8:00 PM
    • Maybe you know them from DC Fringe, maybe you’ve heard the rumors that we actually enticed and captured three of them for an upcoming podcast. Or maybe not. Either way, the Clowns aren’t the scary-sad figures to be feared, but a great piece of nearly forgotten Everyman art. That, and to be perfectly honest, I see glimpses of every con I’ve been at when they take the stage.
Wednesday
  • Nerdlesque - Lord of the Pasties: The Two Tassels - Washington, DC - 8:30 PM
    • Right, if you haven’t gotten out to the Red Palace for the Dr. Who show, or Whedonesque, or any of the other nerdlesque performances over the last couple of years, you’ve got this one, last chance. This is the last geek based burlesque at the Red Palace, and the line up is just jaw dropping (mouth watering, even). Get up to the Palace, and get there early. The last couple big productions sold out, and this one won’t have any extra seats for late comers.
Friday
  • Red Palace - End of an Era Show - Washington, DC - 10:00 PM
    • The Cheeky Monkey Sideshow, which you may remember from our podcast with Mab Just Mab, is performing at the Red Palace this week. The troupe is celebrating over six years of award-winning greatness, and I’m sure every performance from here on out at the Red Palace is going to be jaw-dropping. For more information, check out the event’s Facebook page.

Saturday
  • Presentations - Nerd Night: The Biology Edition - Washington, DC - 6:00 PM
    • Do females on birth control put out more, regardless of species? Are birds our early warning system for the coming zombie apocalypse? Why do geeks tend to clump into social groups? Topics like these are up for presentation and discussion, along with food and drink at DC9 this week. Think of it as the Cinema Drafthouse’s more highbrow cousin.
  • Show - Everything is Terrible! East Holiday Show - Baltimore, MD - 8:00 PM
    • If you’re already familiar with Everything is Terrible! then I really need to say nothing more than: EIT!, stage show, candy, tackiness. If you aren’t already familiar with them, imagine a traditional Christmas special spliced together from random found footage by bitter, bitter philosophy majors who dropped out of school and fried their brains on popular culture and illicit substances. You’ll start to approach understanding of what this show is.
Sunday
  • Gaming - Star Wars X-Wing Kessel Run Preview - Chantilly, VA - 1:00 PM
    • Want a great way to close out your week? Game Parlor is hosting a preview event for the new minis. I’m not up to speed on the latest Star Wars games, but my Google Fu tells me to be excited about the Millenium Falcon and Slave I ships. Cost is $5 per player. Go support your local game store.

Did we miss something? If you have an event you’d like to promote that isn’t on this list, leave a comment or email us. Other weekly recurring events are listed on our website (such as Rocky, CCG tournaments, crazy themed happy hours). For more information, check out the calendars at DC Geeks.
