Wednesday
  • Geek Holiday - Tesla Day - Everywhere - All day
    • It's been over 150 years since the birth of Nikola Tesla, but some of you may still be just now discovering his awesomeness through the fundraising and profanity of The Oatmeal. Between his genius as an inventor, his fascinating range of skills (eidetic memory and spoke 8 languages) and his eccentricities such as never sleeping more than two hours at a time - there's a lot to fangirl/boy over. The Wikipedia summary is well worth a look.
Thursday
  • Festival - Day 1 of the Capital Fringe Festival - Washington, DC - today through July 28
    • Comedy, Dance, Drama, Musical Theater, Opera, Burlesque, Clowning, Improv, Puppetry, Romance, Stand-up, Storytelling, Variety and just about every cross in between. Pick up a pass, pick up a discount button, pick up a date! There are so many shows that you can got lost just trawling through category after category.

Saturday
  • Music - Video Games Live at Wolftrap Filene Center - Vienna, VA - 8:30PM
    • Some video game concerts are very focused: Zelda, Final Fantasy, etc. It's an orchestra and it all sounds wonderful and they wind you up until the "One Winged Angel" finale. This Saturday at Wolftrap is different, they're going all out: huge screens with visuals as they meld the nostalgia of Smash Bros, Earthworm Jim, Chrono Cross, and DK Country with the exquisite scores of newer games of Journey and Skyrim. (If you haven't bought it, get Journey. Get it now.)
Sunday
  • MtG - Core Set 2014 Prerelease - Washington, DC - 1:00PM to 6:00PM
    • Labyrinth is throwing another prerelease party! Well, three of them, actually! The fun starts on Saturday from noon to 10:00PM with two sealed deck tournaments. But if you're heading to the Wolftrap concert, Sunday's event more likely to grab your attention: a Two-Headed Giant sealed deck tournament. RSVP has been open for a bit, so if you're interested check their policy in the link above and register now (subject line must be "M14 PRERELEASE RSVP").

Longer Term
  • Film - Mad Max at the AFI Silver - Silver Spring, MD - Friday, Saturday, and Monday nights
    • Oh AFI Silver, you can make anything sound classy. This weekend, they're showing Mad Max as part of their series of Australian New Wave films, "Ozploitation: Australian Genre Classics." Gotta love that 1979 poster tagline from the IMDB link, "The Maximum Force of the Future" - dat typography. Did you catch the E3 announcement trailer for the Mad Max game? It looks goddamn brutal - so much so that it's almost worth an NSFW tag, but there's only a bit of dry blood and off-screen violence.

Did we miss something? If you have an event you’d like to promote that isn’t on this list, leave a comment or email us. Other weekly recurring events are listed on our website (such as Rocky, CCG tournaments, crazy themed happy hours). For more information, check out the calendars at DC Geeks.
