A showcase of this week's finest geek and geek related activities for the week. Mark your calendars.
Longer Term
- Historical Minis - Fall In! - Lancaster PA - Friday through Sunday
- Evidently there's a huge contingent for historical war games. I apologize for being surprised, but I've hung out with the Warhammer crowd so long, I forgot that anyone was making other minis games. But Fall In is one of the largest cons for the genre, and although it's a bit of a hike from DC, falls squarely in the realm of geekdom.
Brannen whipped up a meme to sum up our feelings on Frankenstorm. |
Monday & Tuesday
- Safety First - Frankenstorm - East Coast - Until there aren't active warnings
- I think it would be pretty irresponsible of me to recommend that people do anything today and tomorrow except stay safe. I hope you're somewhere with power and you've set aside some extra non-perishable food and water. I'm going to try and finish this before I lose power myself.
Wednesday
- Super Halloween Party - Fantom Comics - Washington, DC - 4:00PM to 8:00PM
- Candy, Costumes, Comics, and More! Since Halloween is on every geek's favorite day of the week, Fantom Comics in DC is throwing a shindig. RSVP on Facebook. 4-6 is a chance for kids to trick or treat, and 6-8 is the costume contest and free raffle.
- Zombies - Shaun of the Dead at AFI Silver - Silver Spring, MD - 4:45PM
- The movie that I use whenever someone goes "But I don't liiiike zombie movies!" This one is a great introduction for anyone who's been too squeamish to start enjoying horror flicks. And AFI has a dozen or more movies playing throughout the week, so check out their schedule.
- Paranormal Folk - Jonah Knight's Creepy Halloween Concert - Fairfax, VA - 8:00PM
- Jonah and a few opening acts are heading out to Epicure Cafe this Halloween and performing their creepiest songs. "Ghosts, Monsters, Elder Gods, Disturbing Traditions" and a judging by the RSVP list on Facebook, a whole host of my favorite DCG folk.
Thank you, Clarence. (All upvotes go to frodosamoa). |
Saturday
- Burlesque - Epic Win at Red Palace - Washington, DC - 8:00PM and 10:30PM
- Three years running, Epic Win has boasted the biggest nerdiest burlesque shows around. Although based in NYC, they're making the trek down to DC this week. With references all over the nerd spectrum, there's sure to be something for trekkers and Star Wars fans alike. (And for the non-scifi/fantasy fans, you should go anyway because hell yeah burlesque).
Sunday
- Card Game Demo - Android Netrunner at Labyrinth - Washington, DC - 11:00AM to 6:00PM
- I'm not a huge CCG player, and Tick Tock, Sandy's coming, so I'll just clip they're description: "Come to Labyrinth for our first Android: Netrunner event! Netrunner is an asymmetrical card game with a cyber-punk theme. Players play as either the Corp, a megacorporation bent on power and control over the masses, or the Runner, a hacker attempting to steal the Corp’s secret agendas. We are going to host a tournament as practice for the World Championship in Minnesota as well as demo games for new players. We hope we can help build the Netrunner community in DC starting with a day of play."
Did we miss something? If you have an event you’d like to promote that isn't on this list, leave a comment or email us.
