Deep in the woods, the hem of a green cloak flashes through one of the few beams of sunlight that penetrate all the way to the needle-coated forest floor. A blade gleams as a Daughter of Tairol steps forward, one of a matriarchy of assassins who have withdrawn so deeply into the wood that they have faded into legend.
For this week's podcast, DC Geeks interviews award-winning filmmaker, Francis Abbey on his upcoming web series, The Broken Continent.
The Broken Continent references the world of Tiar Visen, an earth shattered by a vengeful god for the hubris of its king. Inspired by the fantasy worlds of Martin and Tolkien, and the webisode format of The Guild and Journey Quest, Francis is collaborating with local cast and crew to film the fantasy series in northern Virginia.
Currently, they are making the final push on Kickstarter, their goal just within reach. If you support the campaign, you're not just pouring money into one person's hand: you are supporting an entire network of local creative professionals: writers, actors, photographers, costume designers and vendors.

One of the hardest issues with reaching a Kickstarter goal is that so many people lurk, check out the page, click "like" but swayed by the bystander effect, they don't donate. Think about it this way, you sit through however many hours of ads each month on YouTube and Hulu to watch free kitten videos. But if you can give up a dollar, not only are you supporting a great indie series, you also get a button. YouTube never gave you a button.
Now, if you're really inspired by the concepts of this series, the mid and upper level rewards include one of the Daughters of Tairol's iconic green cloaks, a meet up with the cast and crew at Baltimore's Medieval Times, a two-hour action photo shoot with FightGuy Photography, two hours of stage combat instruction, a fantasy-themed photo shoot with award-winning fashion photographer Roy Cox (they'll even provide the fantasy outfit, and touch up your photos), or you can be a refugee in the pilot, and keep your costume.

"There is a point with every project where it is a leap of faith. Unless you're very fortunate, you don't just have everything you need, and then you proceed. I think if you wait that long, it's never going to happen. At a certain point, you just jump in [schedule the actors, begin writing, and have faith that the money will come]." Please help us reward Francis' faith in fantasy fans.
There's only a few days left, and their Kickstarter goal is within reach but not yet met, so please contribute today.
