This Week In Geek 2012/01/09

A showcase of this week's finest geek and geek related activities for the week. Mark your calendars.

Blazing Saddles Meetup?!? (most likely owned by Warner Bros.)

Longer Term

  • Conventions - Marscon - Friday to Sunday
    • I've had the pleasure of knowing some of the previous conchairs for Marscon, not only do they run a fun con, but they are awesome people themselves as well.

Wednesday

  • Movies - Blazing Saddles (Comedy Film Bucket List Meetup) - 7:30 PM
    • Look, if you haven't seen Blazing Saddles(it's too bad most of the links were too offensive to link here), I'm sure there's a pain deep in your soul that's screaming out to be soothed. A hunger that's unfulfilled. I love Mel Brooks movies. This one is so amazingly quotable that makes it one of the movies that I can watch over and over again. I can't wait until they do something like this for Spaceballs as well.

Friday

  • Books - SFF Book Club: American Gods and Flowers for Algernon - 6:30 PM
    • Alright, book clubs, not exactly my thing normally. But American Gods (and most things by Neil Gaiman) is a very good book (although I liked it's spiritual successor Anansi Boys better). Combine that with the heart wrenching experience that is Flowers for Algernon, yeah that sounds like a good time / discussion group.

Saturday

  • Gaming - Video Game Day - 2:00 PM
    • Run by DC Anime Club. Good stuff, they will be running all sorts of video game related events. Including Mario Kart and Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments. Really, did you get enough gaming at MagFest X? (the answer is no)

An exciting week! Get to it! Other weekly reoccurring events are listed on our website (such as Rocky, CCG tournaments, crazy themed happy hours) and with the holidays over they’re back with a vengeance! For more information, check out the calendars at DC Geeks.
