Chris Hardwick in Concert, by Arlington Cinema N Drafthouse |
Longer Term
- Conventions - Anime Mid-Atlantic 11 - Chesapeake, VA - Friday to Monday
- A reasonable sized anime convention down in the tidewater area. They are going to have some pretty popular American voice actors as well as an interesting event line up. If you happen to like "the anime" or consider yourself Otaku, it may be worth checking out.
- Comedy - Chris Hardwick - Alexandria, VA - Friday and Saturday
- One of my favorite comedians. Host of Websoup, the Nerdist Podcast, and stand-up comedian. His style of comedy does it for a lot of nerds around the area. You're doing yourself a disservice if you miss his show while he's in town (to which I can't make, remind me again how I let this happen?). The Nerdist Podcast has made me laugh so hard I cried more times than I can count, which is awkward at work. Yeah awkward staring guy, I'm laughing at something what are you going to do about it?
- Gaming - Shard Larp - Manassas, VA - Saturday to Sunday
- A larp hosted out of Manassas, VA.
Monday
- Art - Clown Cabaret - Washington, DC - 8:00 PM
- A lovely monthly clowning performance, that, in addition to being about clowning, promises to be a bizarre experience.
Thursday
- Art - Dr. Winky's Laugheasy - Washington, DC - 8:00 PM
- A burlesque...y... old time...y comedy show.
Friday
- Comedy - Aziz Ansari (sold out, to stub hub!) - Washington, DC - 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM
- So, Aziz is probably my other favorite comedian. I know what you're thinking. I'm not allowed to have two. I'm sticking my tongue out at you right now. I hope you can see it. He's been on Parks and Recreation and Funny People. I've been showing around his CD for awhile now. If you haven't checked it out, you should.
Saturday
- Geekish General - Spartan Race - Aldie, VA - 9:00 AM
- Another extreme physical challenge. You know, fighting ninjas, slapping high fives while dodging fireballs and grue. #notintendedtobeafactualstatement Really there are a lot of things that happen during this competition. Check out some awesome videos of the event. While I don't recommend it, the concept of the Spartan Death Race... sounds super sexy sci fi.
- Gaming - June Grand Gaming Melee - Alexandria, VA - 10:30 AM
- Fantastic gaming event with a good turn out, food and a wide variety of board games. Many of the new games myself and other area nerds have had a chance to try have come from attending AARGGH melees.
- Gaming - WGA Monthly Game Club - Woodbridge, VA - 11:00 AM
- Monthly meeting of a local interesting gaming club.
- Music - Jonah Knight - Fairfax, VA - 8:00 PM
- I'm really in love with his most recent CD The Exploration of Dangerous Places. Especially the songs Empty House and Pirate Song. I'm quickly trying to make the Pirate Song the new theme for Talk Like a Pirate Day. Fantastic musician in general.
An exciting week! Get to it! Other weekly reoccurring events are listed on our website (such as Rocky, CCG tournaments, crazy themed happy hours...). For more information, check out the calendars at DC Geeks.
